Tim suggested this wonderful idea to blackout everything I couldn’t read on my Newtype Liftout Gate way to Full Metal Alchemist.’ Second time reading through these two pages and was able to pick out the more readings for the kanji. But in the end, the page is quite black.

Reading eventhough I don’t understand 50+% seems utterly stupid but it reinforces the reading of kanji as well as being able to grasp the meaning of the few sentences I can (partially)understand alot quicker. Quite the opposite when you read  ハンサムな先生’s writing, which I have to read two to three times(or even more) to understand.

Here are the non-blackout copies for your reading pleasure.

For those who are studying and want to improve in their language proficiency, should head over to Khazumoto’s All Japanese All The Time . Khazumoto is quite amazing, he’s been able to learn Business Japanese through what I call ‘Immersing yourself in the language.’ How a child learns his/her first language, is by living in the environment, listening, reading and speaking in a language 24/7. We, the seemingly busy students can’t possibly do something like this, the aim is to incorporate as much of the language into your daily routine. For example, listening to Jpop, learning a kanji a day, reading books , speaking to a Japanese friend in Japanese etc. In one of Khazumoto’s videos, he discusses this method, with the annoying Cantonese Dub version of DBZ playing in the background. Taking it to the extreme? Maybe but I believe the accumulation will assist you in improving in the language. For me I listen to Japanese Music (99% of my songs are Japanese), occasionally read Japanese manga( helps with kanji reading since furigana is provided), try to read the Japanese New Type, study Japanese at school(haven’t learnt much at school though in the past 2years), go to Japanese tuition where I do a heap load of writing, speaking and some listening practice, watching Gaki No Tsukai and Sekai HattemadeItteQ (Jap TV Shows) without subs(feel left out when I don’t understand a joke and they’re all laughing), thinking in Japanese (comes out subconsciously alot of the time ),study because I have to, MSNing with 一輝(I need to do this more often) and watching anime.

To measure your proficiency, you should take a language proficiency test. These only test grammar, vocabulary, reading and listening skills, so they aren’t a great indicator, but for certain jobs, you may required to take the test and having it handy won’t hurt. I passed level 3 JLPT last year and hoping to do level 2 in the near future!

So what do you do to improve your proficiency?

It has been around 6 years since the first run of the anime adaptation of Arakawa’s Full Metal Alchemist

First run of FMA:October 4, 2003 – October 2, 2004

Overall, the first run of FMA was great. Became an avid fan of Full Metal Alchemist, wanting to watch more after each episode.

The new series of Full Metal Alchemist (Brotherhood as I will be referring to now), or as people say a ‘remake’ aired yesterday. Probably the most highly anticipated anime of the Spring Season. What I was looking forward to in the new series was the animation. With the quality of BONE’s latest works Soul Eater,Bounen no Xamdou and Sword of a Stranger, the animation in Brotherhood has to be superb. And we got it!

Isaac, the Ice Alchemist

Unlike the first series, Brotherhood started off with action. Isaac, former State Alchemist attempting to destroy Central. Also, the suspicious doings of the military have already arised, after Isaac warning Ed and Alphonse of them.

Comparing animation quality, FMA seemed to have used a brighter colour palette as compared to Brotherhood.

Mustang has put on a bit of weight. His face has become plumper. I know people all over the internet have complained about how they replaced the voice actors for a number of characters, besides  those of Edward and Alphonse Elric (and a few I don’t know of..). What I wanna say, it’s very hard to get a large cast back together to do the same project!! However, after watching the episode, I feel that they did a great job. The voices aren’t much different to what they were in the original.Though I’m not sure how all the Gundam people will cope with Lock On Mustang but…

Again-YUI

Compared to Porno Graffitti’s Melissa, I think the OP was a let down. I’m not saying YUI is bad but they could’ve picked a better song!

The ED, 嘘 by SID is an awesome song, as well as the accompanying animation.

Nana Kitade’s Kesenai Tsume

Other than that, we can only do nothing but wait for next week’s episode of Brotherhood. 楽しみにしているぞ!

I should be doing work now but the hype after reading via RandomC about BONES creating an original new series Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, I had to go to their site for moar.

The premise of the project is the 70% or higher possibility that a magnitude 7.0 earthquake will occur in Tokyo in the next 30 years. The anime will depict what would happen if an 8.0 earthquake took place. BONES will attempt to realistically portray the consequences of such a tremor after collecting data on actual earthquakes and interviewing people.

The story will center on Mirai, a middle school freshman girl who goes to Tokyo’s artificial Odaiba Island for a robot exhibition with her brother Yutaka at the start of summer vacation. A powerful tremor emanates from an ocean trench, the famed Tokyo Tower and Rainbow Bridge crumble and fall, and the landscape of Tokyo changes in an instant. With the help of a motorcycle delivery woman named Mari who they meet on Odaiba, Mirai and Yutaka strive to head back to their Setagaya home in western Tokyo.

A new challenge for the BONES team. Realistic portrayal. Something they’ve never done. Definitely looking forward to watching this in July!

Arrived onto the BONES website, and I saw more of the new Eureka Seven movie, which didn’t know it was so close to completion! We’re getting back most of the cast from the original series, if not all of them. It’s going to be so nostalgic when I get to watch it.

A theatrical adaptation, Kōkyōshihen Eureka Sebun: Pocket ga Niji de Ippai (交響詩篇エウレカセブン ポケットが虹でいっぱい, literally “Pocket Full of Rainbows”), was first announced in the May 2008 issue of Newtype; it is set to be publicly released on April 25, 2009 during Golden Week , with the animation production handled by Kinema Citrus. The creators announced it will contain a new mythos, despite still featuring Renton and Eureka as the main characters.

And you can’t forget about the upcoming FMA remake. News of it everywhere on the net, so I won’t be dabblling about it, but I’ll just say, FINISH FASTER GUNDAMU!!

Even though Soul Eater is coming to an end, after all the humour and whackniess,  we’re still able to enjoy more BONES goodness. I have a feeling this will be the year for BONES.

I was reading up on my anime news tonight. Just found out there’s a Eureka Seven movie. I look forward to watching it.

On the topic of Darker than Black, there have been numerous rumours of a second season but there’s no strong evidence to support it. Anyway, I sat back and watched the 2nd dubbed episode of DtB. I’m not a fan of dubs at all but I found it somewhat interesting comparing it to the original.

I have a problem with the voice actors. First, Misaki’s voice is just a bit too high, or whiny. Secondly, Yin’s voice has a tad bit too much life. Dolls are meant to be kinda dead. Thirdly, Mao’s voice is just bad, not a mentoring kind of voice. I can safely say, Hei and Huang’s voices are fine, but do not match to the originals of course.

I noticed in scenes where they’ve said something different to the original. Yes I understand that they need to differ a bit to account for cultural difference but the dub version loses a little bit of enjoyment because of it. When Mao pops out after Hei has been shot down, I was totally shocked at what they had him say. Hei doesn’t wear his cloak for fasion!?!? That’s just fail.

That’s my rant. It’s very early Christmas morning. Merry Christmas to you all. Hope you all have a great time with whoever you’re spending Christmas with.

In this week’s episode of Soul Eater, we witnessed Maka and Soul’s new and improved Soul Resonance. Much more beautiful and shinier than Witch Hunt, the Demon Hunt made quick work of Mosquito. Chop!vlcsnap-119932

Maka and Soul have stolen the top spot  in my favourite Soul Resonance list from Black Star and Tsubaki! The sweet music playing helped. It just made me awe the beauty even more! IT’S TOO BEAUTIFUL!!!!! 美しすぎ!!!
